Naming Days

image3-2While marriage and commitment ceremonies give us a chance to show our love for each other, it is less often that we make a formal statement to our children.

As an alternative to the religious baptism, the Naming Day ceremony presents an opportunity for you to present your feelings about your child to the world Whether it is a new baby born to you, an adopted little one now sharing your lives, or a blended family coming together, this is a joyous time that you will want to share with the people you love best.

You will also be formalising your child’s relationship with their Guardians or Guide Parents and welcoming these loving mentors into your family. The role of Guardian/Guide Parent is so important in a child’s life, as they become that avenue of support and guidance throughout the child’s life, sometimes helping them on their journey in ways that a parent may be unwilling or unable.

Your ceremony may include poetry, speeches by yourselves, the Guardians/Guide Parents, Grandparents, and (if they are old enough) the child; or no speeches at all, if you prefer. I can help you with your choice of words and music, poetry selections, and any formal speeches you might wish to deliver.

On this most special occasion, with the commitment of Guardians/Guide Parents and the naming of the child, you have truly become a family.
